MIRI (January 1): A 68-year-old man was killed after being struck by a van at KM79 Jalan Sepupok, Batu Niah on New Years Eve.
Superintendent Alexson Naga Chabu, head of traffic investigations and law enforcement in Sarawak, said the victim, identified as Jagai Embol of Rh Michael Balo, Sg Sebatuk Suai in Niah, died at the scene of the 5:50 p.m. incident.
âThe initial investigation revealed that the victim was struck by the van driven by a 57-year-old man on his way to his home in Tanjung Belipat from Tamu Sepupok.

According to Alexson, the initial investigation at the scene revealed that the incident had occurred on a straight, two-way road and that the weather conditions at the time of the incident were good.
The pedestrian who sustained a head injury was pronounced dead at the scene later by paramedics from the Batu Niah clinic.
His body was then sent to the forensic department at Miri Hospital for further measurements.
The case is under investigation under section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
