Citroën Ami Cargo confirmed for UK launch in 2022

Citroën has confirmed that it will double its bid for the new Ami electric quadricycle in the UK by bringing the Ami Cargo last mile delivery van variant to Britain.

Over 14,000 UK customers have expressed interest in the passenger version of the Friend, and 1,400 of them have already paid a refundable deposit of £ 250 to book one.

Prices in the UK have yet to be confirmed but, in its home market, France, the Ami Cargo starts from € 6,490 (around £ 5,600), including a € 900 grant from the French government . The UK currently has no subsidy for EVs of this size, so we expect prices to exceed £ 6,000 by the time the Ami Cargo crosses the Channel.

The little electric courier van looks a lot like the Ami carrying passengers from the outside. Inside, however, Citroën has removed the passenger seat from the Ami and installed a storage capsule in its place, which is separated from the driver by a sturdy bulkhead.

The luggage compartment has a capacity of 260 liters – roughly similar to the trunk of a Toyota Yaris – and it can carry up to 140 kg, which Citroën says makes it perfectly suited for the life of a delivery vehicle. urban last mile. Along with a few new storage bins, Citroën claims the Ami Cargo has a total capacity of 400 liters. That’s a bit more space than the trunk of the fourth generation Skoda Fabia.

The cargo area has a few tie-down points and a height-adjustable floor, which allows the driver to carry items up to 1.2 meters long. A modular hinged shelf is mounted on top of the box, which can support up to 40kg and doubles as a mobile office.

Citroën has also added an additional secure storage bin to the rear of the passenger compartment, designed to keep valuables such as smartphones, sunglasses and wallets out of sight.

Like the standard Ami, the Cargo uses a 5.5 kWh battery to power an 8 hp electric motor. Top speed stands at 28 mph, and Citroën says the electric vehicle will cover 46 miles on a single charge.

You can only charge the battery using a three-prong plug. However, due to the small size of the battery, it only takes about three hours for it to reach 100% of its capacity.

French buyers can specify optional extras such as door nets, branded floor mats, and a smartphone mount for the dashboard. More recently, Citroën also gave some examples of professional liveries with which buyers can mark their cars.
