Egypt Calls on Agility to Modernize Suez Canal Economic Zone Customs and Operations

Egypt – The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) announced on Monday that it has signed a contract with Agility, a leader in supply chain services, infrastructure and investment, to develop and operate a customs and logistics center in the zone. economy of the Suez Canal.

The agreement with Agility was signed during the Egyptian-Kuwaiti Economic Forum in the presence of Waleid Gamal Eldien, President of SCZone, and Tarek Sultan, Vice President of Agility.

Agility will work with SCZone to implement its strategic vision in the areas of industrial zone services, logistics and support by establishing a technical and logistics arm that will automate customs processes and operations in the SCZone. The automation element will link SCZone customs services and government agencies involved in the inspection work. The project, intended to transform the area into a global logistics hub, will improve the movement of goods and raw materials and bring efficiency and cost savings to international companies and investors operating there. Agility has invested $60 million to build a 100,000 m² customs and logistics center in the Ain Sokhna industrial zone, as well as another 100,000 m² customs and logistics center in East Port Said. The project will be implemented in the second half of 2023.

Waleid Gamal Eldien said, “Today’s signing of this contract with Agility, a leader in customs modernization, is in line with the Suez Canal Authority’s 2020/2025 strategic plan, which aims to create a attractive investment and to pursue one of Egypt’s main development objectives. , which is to create employment opportunities through integrated and sustainable economic growth. This agreement will allow the Suez Canal Authority to improve visibility on incoming materials and finished goods and improve efficiency through a one-stop customs platform. The result will be increased business activity, faster release of goods and better overall operations.

Gamal Eldien added: “This agreement is in line with Egyptian policies of developing customs clearance services by building an integrated and automated system that increases the overall efficiency of customs operations, reducing the backlog of shipments and goods, while providing the best possible services to investors. .”
