HIGH NOTES: New van for the YWCA, storytelling walk, cookies for charities

In Schenectady, Local insurer CDPHP recently donated a new seven-seater minivan and utility truck to the YWCA Northeastern NY to help meet the transportation needs of the women it serves. The new van replaces a 15-year-old van that had become rusty and worn, forcing women in need of YWCA services to take taxis for the services. The new van will allow the YWCA to safely transport victims of domestic violence to shelters, return them home to retrieve items lost when they left their abusers, and bring women to appointments while ‘they are in a shelter. The utility truck will allow the YWCA to move supplies between YWCA facilities. For more information on the YWCA Northeastern NY, visit https://www.ywca-neny.org/.

In Galway, the Galway Public Library recently opened its new Story Walk to promote literacy, exercise and outdoor recreation. The walkway is located at the back of the library at 2112 East Street, and features pages from a single book displayed on signs along an easy-to-navigate trail. The currently published book is “The Keeper of Wild Words”, written by Brooke Smith and illustrated by Madeline Kloepper. The library will publish new books on a seasonal basis. The Story Walk is open to the public during the day. Volunteers helped create this resource. For more information, contact the library at 518-882-6385 or [email protected]

in Albany, members of the Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York recently donated nearly 24,000 boxes of Girl Scouts cookies to area organizations to help them raise funds. Customers were able to purchase cookies and designate them for donation. Boxes of cookies were donated to the American Red Cross, Ronald McDonald House in Albany, and the Veterans and the Veterans & Community Housing Coalition.
