RENO, Nev. (KOLO) — Ukrainians stuck in a war zone have had trouble getting basic supplies, and residents of the Reno area are trying to help.
Alyona Linfante led an effort to collect relief goods. Donations included hygiene products, blankets, sweaters and non-perishable food.
People were seen coming and going, dropping off boxes and bags – including a young girl who felt pressured to deliver goods with her mother who immigrated from Ukraine years ago.
“Even though all human progress is destroyed, there are still people everywhere who care about you, and want to support you and they pray for you everyday and cry just thinking about what you are going through, we all just take take care of yourself and don’t do it. Remember that,” said 13-year-old Chelsea, who showed up to donate with her mother.
Donation efforts, led by residents who have family currently in Ukraine. They said they were thrilled with the support from the Reno community and needed to get a bigger truck to transport the donations received.
Supplies will be shipped overseas as soon as possible. Organizers are working with refugee and relief organizations to make the delivery as efficient as possible.
Plans are underway for another collection effort.
