Orwell Truck & Van and S & B Commercials Dealers Double Development of £ 4 Million Service and Parts Center for Mercedes-Benz

Today, Mercedes-Benz and FUSO commercial vehicle operators are offered an exciting glimpse into the future, in the form of a state-of-the-art truck and van aftermarket center taking shape in the town of Witham, Essex.

The project represents an investment of almost £ 4million by Motus (UK), owner of two long-established Mercedes-Benz dealers – between them Orwell Truck & Van and S & B Commercials represent the star to three branches of eight branches in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Hertfordshire. Like other members of the manufacturer’s franchise network, they also sell and support the FUSO Canter line of light trucks.

The flagship development is perfectly situated along a stretch of the A12 state road which connects Chelmsford and Colchester. This is the main route by which trucks entering and exiting Felixstowe and Harwich docks reach London and the M25.

Scheduled to be completed before the end of the year, the new center will be open 24 hours a day, six days a week. Importantly, the three-acre site provides ample room for drivers to maneuver and park their trucks.

At the heart of the 2,500 m² building will be a fully equipped workshop with nine full-length truck and trailer bays. Two of them will have 22-meter pits, as well as a third that will be set up as an authorized testing facility so that inspectors from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency can perform MOT tests. on site for trucks.

Eight other bays will be reserved for the maintenance and repairs of the vans, as well as for MOT tests in categories 4, 5 and 7. These will be carried out by the dealer’s own technicians and during the day or night hours. that best suit customers.

Truck washing facilities are also being installed, while the 700 m² parts department will carry larger and more in-depth Mercedes-Benz genuine parts stocks than ever before. Not only will the team serve their shop colleagues and over-the-counter customers, but as the company’s new shopping center, they will also make urgent and other deliveries on their own behalf and independent maintenance facilities, garages, mechanics and the like throughout Essex, Suffolk, and parts of Hertfordshire.

Meanwhile, shortly before construction began in Witham, S & B Commercials undertook a £ 1.2million redevelopment of its dedicated truck workshop in West Thurrock, which is open from 6 am on Monday and the rest until 1 pm on Saturday.

This program, which is expected to be completed by the end of March 2022, increases capacity by 50% and reflects the huge demand from local operators for dealership maintenance and repair support.

It adds three more full-length truck and trailer bays to the six already in place. Two of the new bays will be the first at this location with pits – one is being upgraded to ATF, the other will be fully equipped for ADR and pet work – and the parts department is also underway. extension.

S&B Commercials is now recruiting for the additional technicians it needs to meet Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ “zero tolerance for downtime” commitment.

Lee Seward, Managing Director of Orwell Truck & Van and S & B Commercials, said: “The very substantial investments we are making in Witham and West Thurrock reflect our determination to provide customers with an experience and level of service to match. the reputations of the brands and the quality of the products that we are proud to represent.

“The Witham project has been in the planning for a long time and it is extremely exciting now that it is finally a reality. Given its fantastic location, the new after-sales center will play an important role in our growth strategy as we strive to keep vehicle downtime to a minimum for our customers.

The South African and multi-brand Motus Group (UK) acquired Orwell Truck & Van in 2013 and S & B Commercials the following year. Today, they have a combined workforce of over 400 professional and motivated colleagues.

Lee Seward added, “We have spent a lot of time and effort over the past few years bringing the two dealer groups together, introducing new systems, capitalizing on synergies and developing strategies to bring all of our locations up to speed. standards that we, and especially our customers, expect.

“This process is now almost complete, so we are now on a much stronger footing and working as a unified team. The new after-sales center reveals the direction in which we are traveling. Watch this place! “

Wolfgang Theissen, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Trucks UK, was delighted: “When you see the work going on at Witham and West Thurrock, it really underlines Motus Group’s long-term commitment. These investments prove to Mercedes-Benz and FUSO truck operators that they can continue to count on us for the fast and efficient support they deserve.

“Witham is a particularly welcome development as it will provide us with brand representation in an area – and along a busy national road – where it was previously lacking. We thank them for this investment and look forward to the opening of this fantastic new facility. “
