We wrote about the electric delivery van that Rivian developed with Amazon a little earlier, as is quite a big deal—100,000 highly visible electric delivery vans that will likely be the first mass deployment of modern last mile EV delivery vehicles are worth noting. As such, you would think Rivian would have given a lot of thought to what they wanted to call this vehicle, but, based on the marque documents, looks like they decided to call her in place.
The registered name for the delivery vehicle? It’s RCV.
It would seem that RCV stands for “Rivian Commercial Vehicle” which is less of a name and more like the words you say when you can’t remember the name.
From what we’ve seen so far, I like the RCV – it has a nice, friendly face, seems a very practical and rational design for its intended job, and there’s even an interesting taillight design in it. Classes.
Here, watch a self-slaughter video on Amazon and Rivian’s new delivery truck:
Okay, problems inherent in the way Amazon treats its delivery drivers aside, this thing deserves a better name than RCV. So let’s see what we can offer:
It reminds me a bit of the whale. They also have cargo planes named after these, so it’s not that far-fetched.
Like a tesseract, a cube made of cubes, but for boxes, because it’s a box full of boxes
A cute Italian-sounding word that suggests everyone wants their shit now, always
I like animal names for vehicles, and it’s a big workhorse, like a yak
Some kind of animal, prehistoric megalodon shark, but with the mag- prefix, for magnetic, like electromagnetic
It’s just a kiss to the boss. Do not do it
More animal. Van more panther!
Like a devil, but to carry shit
Some kind of high-tech sounding word mixed with a box sounding word
Hmm. Something like “electric delivery” but it looks like an artificial organ
Like “disperse” and “electronic”. No?
Okay, maybe this is more difficult than I thought. But I am open to your ideas! I know we can do better than RCV, right?
