Saudi Global Ports Secures Concession To Operate Riyadh Dry Port Ecosystem

Saudi Global Ports (“SGP”), the operator of the container terminal at King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam (“Dammam Seaport”), has obtained a concession from the Saudi Railway Company (“SAR”) to develop and operate the Riyadh Dry Port Ecosystem (“RDP”), comprising three facilities in Riyadh and Dammam, following a public-private partnership call for tenders under the authority of the Kingdom’s Privatization Oversight Committee. The RDP concession agreement was signed during the first Saudi-Singapore joint committee held in Riyadh on December 7, 2021.

SGP plans to develop and operate RDP and Dammam Seaport as an integrated system, in order to improve the efficiency of logistics network flows and reduce logistics costs in the Kingdom. It will also work with SAR and various stakeholders to provide multimodal and freight solutions to market needs and develop RDP’s rail freight business. In addition, SGP will embark on a modernization program to modernize infrastructure and civilian facilities, purchase new equipment and invest in technologies such as automation and a unified digital platform. This in turn improves the safety, security and sustainability of supply chains, in line with the objectives of the national strategy for transport and logistics services.

SGP Chairman Mr. Abdulla Al Zamil said: “Saudi Global Ports is honored to be chosen as a partner of the Saudi Railway Company to transform the ecosystem of Riyadh Dry Port into a modern logistics facility that supports the second pillar of Kingdom Vision 2030 of a thriving Saudi economy. This is also an important step for SGP, as we can extend our benchmark performance beyond ports to grow as a provider of integrated freight solutions. With the support of the Saudi Railway Company, we will work on a quick and smooth transition and subsequently streamline the supply chain landscape for more efficient freight movement between Dammamand Riyadh. “

Mr. Wan Chee Foong, PSA Regional General Manager for Middle East and South Asia and Group Business Development Director, said: “We thank Saudi Railway Company for placing their trust in Saudi Global Ports. As a leading global port operator and partner of freight stakeholders, PSA strives to deliver innovative digital and freight solutions to businesses and governments around the world. We will continue to work closely with Saudi Global Ports and Saudi Railway Company with a shared vision of transforming the Riyadh Dry Port into a resilient and sustainable supply chain ecosystem, for the benefit of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and beyond. . “

As part of the agreement, SGP and SAR will work together to increase the operational efficiency of the Riyadh-Dammam freight line and more than double RDP’s handling capacity to 1.5 million containers per year by 2030. To offer the best performance and harmonize logistics between RDP and Dammam Seaport, new innovative business processes will be introduced in the ecosystem of Riyadh dry port, such as the automation of 24/7 customer services, facilitating a cost effective last mile delivery service and supporting the competitiveness of Saudi Arabian exports with various improved rail services and incentives.
