Suspect in Tuesday’s transport truck crash released pending court date

KAMLOOPS – An Alberta man has been released pending a court date following the collision that closed off part of Columbia Street on Tuesday (October 18).

In a news release on Tuesday morning, police said the tractor-trailer crashed into a front yard and into a house. In addition, according to the police, many vehicles on the roadway were hit and badly damaged, but no one was injured.

The alleged driver reportedly fled the transport truck, but was located shortly afterwards and taken into custody as part of the criminal investigation.

“The suspect was later released by police and given a court date for Criminal Code offenses relating to the operation of a motor vehicle, including impaired operation of a motor vehicle, with charging recommendations to follow,” said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, spokesperson for the Kamloops RCMP. “While the suspect has been given a court date to address the alleged offences, investigation requirements are ongoing and police are encouraging anyone with information or video related to the incident to contact him. as soon as possible.”
