Watch the Volvo heavy truck haul heavy equipment

We normally saw several loaded trucks and trailers on our roads. We are all aware that driving a heavy vehicle like a truck especially when fully loaded is very difficult. Unlike a regular car or bicycle, truck drivers cannot drive recklessly as it can be dangerous. Apart from those trucks that we normally see on our roads, there are manufacturers who make heavy duty trucks which are used to transport heavy equipment from one point to another. Sometimes these transported goods are so heavy that they require more than one truck. Volvo is one such manufacturer that offers such heavy duty trucks in India and here we have a video of a Volvo FMX truck carrying equipment on a trailer with over 300 wheels.

The video was uploaded by Kusum Goyat on his YouTube channel. In this video, the vlogger shows a Volvo FMX heavy truck carrying heavy equipment on a trailer. These trucks operate in a very different way. As they transport extremely bulky equipment, they only drive during the day to avoid any accident. The truck is built to carry such heavy equipment but in some places it needs assistance and in such places another truck is attached to the front or back to push the trailer forward . This is usually done when approaching a climb.

The vlogger even asks about the truck’s fuel economy. The truck requires almost 3 to 4 liters of fuel to travel 1 km. The distance between BHEL, Haridwar and Kandla port in Gujarat is almost 1300 km and it would take them about 15-30 days to deliver the equipment to the port. Transporting such heavy equipment on a train is inconvenient, since the dimensions are huge. The cost of transporting such heavy equipment by road is much higher than one might imagine.

The video mentions that it is an equipment which is brought from BHEL, Haridwar and transported to Kandla port in Gujarat. The equipment is used in power stations. The equipment is so huge that they use not one but two trailers to transport it. There are probably three trucks attached to the trailer to make things a little easier. Usually these trucks only travel about 60-100 km per day and this may decrease if the roads are rough.

There are a total of 28 people in the crew who carry this equipment and there is a front and rear safety vehicle which clears traffic and analyzes the road condition when the truck is in movement. The truck literally crawls because it cannot sustain speed while carrying such heavy equipment. The other crew members ensure that the trailer does not touch any electrical wires and also clearly passes the toll gates on the highways. The direction of the trailer wheels can be controlled separately to decrease the turning radius. Each member of the trailer and truck should coordinate with the driver and inform the driver of the status from time to time.
